Type of Volunteering: Monetary donation
Organization: Wyoming & Colorado Children’s Society
Outcome: Supporting children and families through adoption services
The best part of RMI’s #giveback effort is the opportunity for each employee to support causes that are close to our hearts. When I was asked to recommend a local organization to help out, I knew I wanted to support adoption efforts here in Cheyenne.
As a parent who is building my family through adoption, I am grateful for organizations like the Wyoming & Colorado Children’s Society that are dedicated to supporting children and building strong families through adoption. The history of the Wyoming Children’s Society is amazing, spanning over a century and evolving as the world of adoption has changed over the years. Today, they provide an array of services, including birth parent counseling and support; and infant, waiting child and inter-country adoption services.
My personal experience with adoption has given me a “peek behind the curtain” at the realities of foster care, adoption, and the challenges of blending families. It’s a remarkable balance of patience, grace, selflessness and love. The social workers tasked with navigating this journey just might be angels on earth, and they do a phenomenal job of advocating for all parties – children, birth parents and adoptive parents.

If you have limited experience with adoption, I strongly encourage you to open your heart and reach out to friends, family or organizations that could teach you more about it. Adoption is AMAZING, but adoption is hard. It’s complicated. It’s not over when the papers are signed – it’s a lifelong journey. But it is an amazing example of people stepping up to help one another through some of the hardest moments in their lives. We could use a little more of that in 2020!
The Wyoming & Colorado Children’s Society is the oldest non-profit statewide adoption agency in Wyoming, with a proven history and sterling reputation for integrity and ethical standards. The Society is licensed by the Wyoming Department of Family Services and Colorado Department of Human Services; is Hague accredited by the Council on Accreditation; and is one of the 24 member agencies of the Children’s Home Society of America.
