5 Tips to Start the New Year Off Strong

5 Tips to Start the New Year Off Strong

How to set a realistic resolution – and keep it

The New Year means a fresh start, new goals and, you guessed it, those New Year’s resolutions. For some, all three give a hopeful, exciting and positive outlook for the year to come, while others may dread the latter – those resolutions! If you haven’t fully set your resolutions and goals for 2025 yet, here are some helpful, simple tips to get your year started off on the right foot.

  1. Be realistic: Shooting for the stars is ambitious and fantastic, but try to keep it simple, realistic and attainable. For example, “Make $1 million” might be aiming a bit high, but “Gain 5 new clients” is absolutely realistic. Resolutions can be a broad statement of what you want to change, and from there, you can set specific goals to help you achieve them.
  2. Start small: Decide on a few resolutions and goals to begin with; you can always add on more throughout the year. Setting too many can be overwhelming and you can easily get frustrated or bogged down. If you aren’t sure where to even start, I would suggest picking something that interests you and you are passionate about. It can even be as easy as keeping your inbox organized and not a clutter of emails in 2025. Create folders that align with projects, etc. that you can easily move any emails pertaining to that specific topic into. Checking emails daily, getting rid of any junk and moving emails into folders will start your year off organized.
  3. Write it down: Jot down those resolutions and goals. Life happens, we get busy and we sometimes can forget what we wanted to accomplish throughout the year. Put them in a place where you can see them often; maybe that’s a reminder set in your phone several times throughout the year, a sticky note on your desk you see every day or even something you put in big writing on a dry erase board in your home, office or conference room.
  4. Recognize your progress: Celebrate when you’ve accomplished and checked off one of those goals and resolutions. Keep the momentum going! If you’re working toward a large company goal that involves a team, incentives are a great way to help push the group. Inside us all is a little competitive side. Don’t forget to have some fun along the way, too!
  5. Share with others: Create accountability! Sometimes we all need a little extra push. Get with others in your work organization to team together and work towards similar resolutions and goals. This can help keep you on track, and you can help hold each other accountable. Check in with one another to see how each is progressing. Monthly or quarterly “check-ins” are helpful and can easily be accomplished during staff and team meetings.

What’s the right number of resolutions and goals to set for the year? Well, the good news is that’s entirely up to you and your team! Whatever goals and resolutions you have set for 2025, whether it’s in your work life or personal life, we wish you much success, happiness and good health in 2025!

Until next time,
